Stripe’s stripe/ai repository is its hub for building AI products on Stripe. For Claude users, two parts matter: a hosted Stripe MCP server at https://mcp.stripe.com with OAuth, and an official Stripe plugin for Claude Code that bundles agent skills encoding Stripe’s latest integration best practices.
Who it is for
Developers adding checkout, subscriptions or billing to an app, and teams who want Claude to inspect or manage Stripe objects while building.
Install in Claude Code
From the README, run in your project:
claude plugin install stripe@claude-plugins-official
The plugin updates automatically. To use the MCP server directly, point an MCP client at https://mcp.stripe.com and sign in through OAuth (see Stripe’s MCP docs). For agents without plugin support, the README offers a skills-only install:
npx skills add https://docs.stripe.com
Manually installed skills do not auto-update; run npx skills update -y periodically.
Use cases
- Integration build: “Add Stripe Checkout for the Pro plan with a webhook handler.”
- Subscription logic: implement upgrades, proration and cancellation following current guidance.
- Account inspection: look up a customer, subscription or failed payment in test mode while debugging.
- AI billing: meter token usage with
@stripe/token-meterfor usage-based pricing.
Pros
- Official and hosted; OAuth instead of pasting secret keys.
- Skills steer Claude away from deprecated Stripe APIs.
- Same skills available for Codex, Cursor and other agents.
Cons and caveats
- Acting on a live account is risky; develop against test mode.
- Payment code still needs human review, especially webhooks and idempotency.
- The plugin adds skill descriptions to context in every session where it is enabled.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install anything locally?
No for MCP. Stripe hosts the server at mcp.stripe.com with OAuth. The Claude Code plugin adds skills and keeps them updated automatically.
Can Claude create real charges or objects?
MCP tools act on the Stripe account you authorize. Use a test-mode account while developing so nothing touches live data.
What else is in the stripe/ai repository?
SDKs for billing AI products, including @stripe/ai-sdk for Vercel's AI SDK and @stripe/token-meter for native OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini SDKs.
