PPTX Skill for Claude: Create and Edit Slide Decks

The pptx skill tells Claude how to handle any task that touches a .pptx or .potx file, as input, output or both. It is one of Anthropic’s four document skills.

What it does

• Creates decks: pitch decks, presentations and slide decks, built with pptxgenjs (with documented gotchas).
• Edits existing decks and templates: reorder or delete slides, change slide content, work with layouts, speaker notes and comments.
• Reads decks: extracts text from slides even if you only need the content for an email or summary.
• Combines or splits slide files.
• Applies design guidance: color palettes, typography, spacing, and a list of common mistakes to avoid.
• Runs QA before delivering.

Example usage

Create a 10-slide pitch deck from this one-page brief, with speaker notes
Use template.potx to turn the Q3 report into a deck in our company style
Extract all text and speaker notes from all-hands.pptx into a Markdown summary
Remove slides 4 to 6 from deck.pptx and move the pricing slide to the end

Tips

• Provide the template when brand consistency matters.
• State the audience and slide count to keep decks focused.
• Ask for a rendered preview check if your environment can convert slides to images.
