Compound Engineering is an MIT-licensed plugin from Every that packages 36 skills around one loop: brainstorm, plan, work, simplify, review, then capture what you learned. The captured notes are read by the next brainstorm and plan, so each change should make the following one easier.

Checked 24 Oct 2026 against the repo README, plugin.json (version 3.32.0) and marketplace.json.

Who it is for

Developers and small teams who want a disciplined, plan-first workflow with Claude Code and like the idea of building up project knowledge in the repo.

Install

From the README:

/plugin marketplace add EveryInc/compound-engineering-plugin
/plugin install compound-engineering

Then run /ce-setup in a project.

What it does

The standard loop:

/ce-brainstorm make background job retries safer
/ce-plan
/ce-work
/ce-simplify-code
/ce-code-review
/ce-compound
  • /ce-brainstorm and /ce-plan grow one plan from requirements into an implementation plan.
  • /ce-code-review runs a report-only multi-agent review against the plan.
  • /ce-compound writes the learning to docs/solutions/.
  • Extra skills cover debugging (ce-debug), ideation, git and PR work, browser and Xcode testing, and the hands-off /lfg pipeline.

Pros

  • Clear, opinionated workflow with planning and review built in.
  • Knowledge accumulates as files you can read and edit.
  • Actively maintained, MIT licensed and portable across many agent hosts.

Cons and caveats

  • 36 skills is a lot to learn; start with the core six.
  • Heavy on planning, which is overkill for small fixes.
  • Updating needs the extra marketplace refresh step.

Frequently asked questions

How do I update it?

Refresh the marketplace before updating. The README warns that running /plugin update alone keeps you on the old version.

What does /lfg do?

It runs the whole loop hands-off: works through a plan, simplifies, reviews and applies fixes, captures learnings, runs browser tests and commits. With a git remote it opens a PR and watches CI, but does not merge unless you allow it.

Where are learnings stored?

By default in docs/solutions/ in your repo. A docs_root setting can move all of its artifact folders under one path.

Does it work outside Claude Code?

Yes. The README says it runs on 14 agent hosts, including Cursor and Codex.
