feature-dev is an Anthropic plugin that turns feature work into a guided, seven-phase workflow. Instead of jumping into code, /feature-dev makes Claude explore your codebase, ask questions, propose architectures and review its own work before it reports back.
Checked 24 Oct 2026 against the plugin’s README and marketplace.json.
Who it is for
Developers adding features that touch several files or need an architectural choice, in an existing codebase the workflow can learn from.
Install
/plugin install feature-dev@claude-plugins-official
Run it with or without a description:
/feature-dev Add rate limiting to API endpoints
What it does
- Discovery: clarifies what you want to build.
- Codebase exploration: runs 2 to 3
code-exploreragents in parallel and reads the key files they find. - Clarifying questions: lists edge cases, integration points and open questions, then waits for your answers.
- Architecture design: runs 2 to 3
code-architectagents (minimal change, clean architecture, pragmatic balance) and recommends one. - Implementation: starts only after you approve.
- Quality review: runs 3
code-revieweragents and asks whether to fix now, later or proceed. - Summary: lists what was built, key decisions and files changed.
Pros
- Forces understanding and questions before code, which cuts rework.
- You approve the design and the fixes at clear checkpoints.
- Agents can also be called on their own, for example “Launch code-explorer to trace how authentication works”.
Cons and caveats
- Slow and token-heavy for small tasks.
- Phase 3 can ask many questions if your request is vague.
- Assumes an existing codebase; it is not a scaffolding tool.

Frequently asked questions
Does it write code straight away?
No. Implementation is phase 5 and only starts after you approve an architecture. Earlier phases explore the codebase and ask clarifying questions.
Which agents does it include?
Three: code-explorer traces existing features, code-architect designs implementation blueprints, and code-reviewer checks bugs, quality and CLAUDE.md compliance.
When should I skip it?
The README advises against it for single-line fixes, trivial changes, well-defined simple tasks and urgent hotfixes.
